Annotated Information

Function

OsMPK6 functions as a negative regulator in rice resistance toXoo(Yuanet al., 2007). OsMPK6 can also function as a positive regulator in XooandXocresistance. Thus OsMPK6 appears to be a two-faced player in the host– Xoointeraction. Although a few pathogen-induced defense responsive genes have been reported to have opposing functions in plant–pathogen interactions, the dual functions were observed in host responses to different pathogens (Brodersen et al., 2006; Li et al., 2006; Zhang et al., 2007). OsMPK6 stands out by showing opposite functions in response to the same pathogen, which provides a new view for elucidating the molecular mechanisms of plant defense responses.
