The rice gene Os06g0116400 was reported as ZN in 2010[1] by researchers from Korea, China and Azerbaijan.

Annotated Information

Gene Symbol

  • Os06g0116400 <=> ZN, OsZN

Function

  • ZN encodes a thylakoid-bound protein which is essential for chloroplast biogenesis during early leaf development.
  • ZN is required for protecting developing chloroplasts, especially during the assembly of thylakoid protein complexes, from incidental light after darkness.

Mutation

  • zn phenotype is formed by unequal impairment of chloroplast biogenesis before emergence from the leaf sheath under alternate light/dark or high/low temperatures (restrictive), but not under constant light and temperature (permissive) conditions.

Expression

  • Expression analyses of OsZN showed that it is expressed only in the shoot organs, with the highest levels found in younger leaf tissues, but not in the roots.
